Dear all
Last term I emailed mentors about reading volunteers for the Festival of Words at the end of September. This is now happening over two days (10:30-11:00 on Wednesday 25th & Thursday 26th October) and we are still looking for one or two volunteers for Romanian, Polish, English and Portuguese. Please could you advertise this amongst your mentees today (or any KS5 students that you teach and you think might be interested):
Festival of Words reading volunteers – Wednesday 25th / Thursday 26th September 10:30-11:00 in Millenium Park
- We are looking for KS5 MLL students to participate in pre-school story telling in Millenium Park as part of this year’s Festival of Words.
- 1 volunteer needed for Portuguese and 2 volunteers for English, Romanian and Polish for each day (the same student can volunteer twice, or we can have different students going on both days).
- We will need to leave school at 10:00 and will return around 11:30, so students will need to check with p2/p3 subject teachers in advance for the day(s) that they are volunteering, and catch up on any missed work.
This is a great opportunity to support young children in preserving and developing their home language and to share your home language. As well as making these children feel very happy, any community work such as this would also a great addition to future UCAS personal statements/job application!
Any students who are interested, either email me or pop into see me today, as we are hoping to run a quick session on reading to children towards the end of the week.
Many thanks for your support.
